Question : How do I convert a text entry to a numeric value in Excel?

I am trying to convert the content from one data set to work with another database.  The data being converted contains a text value in the cell (field).  We need to convert this text to a numeric value.

As an example:

Vintage Pants = 12
Western Shirt = 15
Denim Jacket = 23

We need to convert "Vintage Pants" to a value of 12,
"Western Shirt" to a value of 15, etc.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Try using vlookup or hlookup excel functions

Both can lookup for a value in a column and return a cell value.
