Question : When I un-install GroupWise 6.5, Microsft Excel will not open (compliation errors).

Hello:

We have just migrated from GroupWise 6.5 to Exchange 2007.  Exchange is working great for us so far; but, we are now beginning to un-install GroupWise on some pc's.

I have noticed that when I un-install GroupWise 6.5 on some PC's then Excel stops working.  I have tried to un-install Office and re-install a newer version (from Office XP to Office 2007); but, on some computers they have problems opening Microsoft Excel.  Compilation errors come up and one cannot use excel anymore.  I suspect it has something to do with how GroupWise tries to integrate itself with Microsoft Office Products (for its email window for attachments) and then when GroupWise is un-installed it hosed up something.

To fix the problem I have been re-installing GroupWise on those PC's.  The problem is indeed 'PC' specific.  There must be a registry hack or setting somewhere to compensate for this.  If I take the same PC's and re-image them and then do not include GroupWise on there at all, then there is no problem.  Even when trying to open the very same Excel files, there are no problems.

Additionally, if I try to view the same Excel files that have triggered this Excel compilation error, on my PC, I do not have these erros.  And yes I have used to use GroupWise and Excel on my PC for a while.  The problems are PC specific.

I guess you assume that we know the needs and requirements in a cable organization. I have no idea.

If you just need a standard RDBMS I agree with slightwv. Sybase might be better for mission critical databases in terms of performance and reliability. Syase promotes in memory databases in these days. It all depends on what you need and what you compare.

On the other hand, Sybase has the best replication technology and also Sybase is leader on mobile technologies as much as I know. So you should identify what technologies and features are more important for you first.
