Question : acer aspire am5640...darn sound!!!

This is the most troublesome XP install I've ever done. Acer does not want XP on this PC for some reason, and to get as far as I've got, you have to download the drivers from Acer's taiwan support,  http://twsupport.acer.com.tw/driver2.asp

I had to use nlite to integrate into XP setup to find the hard drive.

As far as I know this PC is done except for the darn sound!! I've spent so much time trying to get the sound to work.

The funny thing is, even if you disable the integrated sound within the BIOS, and try to use a PCI sound card it doesn't work either.

It just seems to me all the time I've spent w/ the sound the motherboard just has its problems.

I've included a zip file of pictures so you can see different screens about the sound.

As far as I know, the PC doesn't think there are speakers on the PC; at least it seems that way. I've got working external speakers hooked to the PC but the PC doesn't think they are there, which I think is why I can't try to listen to sounds within the control panel.

I reset & updated the BIOS but no difference

One thing I'm not too clearn of are some of the sound settings in the BIOS. There is a simple disable to get rid of the integrated sounds but there are also different ways to enable the sound; deals w/ codecs

The options, if I remember right, are internal codec, external + internal codecs, but it would seem to me as much time as i've spen trying to get this working I'd have tried all the combinations.

I may just have to tell this person to buy USB sound if sounds is a must have; doesn't seem internal sound integrated or not will not work.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer : acer aspire am5640...darn sound!!!

after install of all installables, does your device manager tell you drivers have been installed?
if yes can you play any sound, like default windows sound?
is the speaker plugged into the right port? (sounds silly i know)
is the sound volume up? (sounds silly i know)
is this the same for both onboeard and pci card?

let us know!
