Question : DNS and Active Directory and Mulitiple servers
I don't know if this is a problem or not so I thought I'd ask the experts.
I have a 3 Domain Controller Active Directory DNS Integrated setup.
The 2 AD Domain controllers holding all the FSMO roles are Windows 2003 Enterprise 32bit ver. The other server is a Windows 2008R2 64bit server. What I am concerned about is that when I open the DNS console in the WIndows 2008R2 server I added both of the Windows 2003 Servers to the DNS tree without any problems. I have 3 AD DNS integrated servers and I have them all visable in the DNS tree on the Windows 2008R2 Server.
But on both of the Windows 2003 servers when I open the DNS console I can see both of the Windows 2003 DNS servers in the tree only. When I try to connect to the WIndows 2008R2 DNS server I get an error popup that says "The Server is Unavailable. Would you like to add it anyway?".
I can ping the Windows 2008R2 server from both Windows 2003 servers as well and it appears that the AD replication is working fine.
Is this a problem or just some behavior related to the different OSs?
Answer : DNS and Active Directory and Mulitiple servers
NS tab won't impact the admin tools.
Windows 2003 DNS management can manage NT, 2000, 2003 and 2008. However, they cannot manage Windows 2008 R2. I would have to put this down to changes in the RPC interface between versions.
