Question : Domating aDC runing Exchange

I have a Windows 2003 domain with 4 Dc on it, one of the DC is also running Exchange 2003, I will be converting two of the DC to a virtual network in the next few weeks and I am plaaning on moving the FSMO role to the DC that has exchange temary while I demote and move the main DC. Then I will move the role back and demote the Dc with exchange on.

The question are:

1. When I move the FSMO roles from DC1 to DC2 how long do I have to wait before I
can demote DC1 ?

2. when I demote the DC that is running exchange will it effect the exchange application ?

The transfer of the FSMO roles will happen immediately.

You cannot demote a deter running exchange,  running DCPROMO on an Exchange Server will break Exchange.

You will have to transfer Exchange to another server first.
