Question : win2k8 sbs not working without old win2k3 sbs server hooked up

I have just finished a migration from win2k3 sbs to win2k8 sbs all went well but when i unhook the old win2k3 server exchange will not work on the win2k8 server, gives an error about not being able to find the GC server. (the 2k8 server is set to be a GC server) dns and dhcp all work fine. the clients are set to use the new server also and like i said with the old 2k3 server hooked up all works fine. any help would be much appreciated.

Answer : win2k8 sbs not working without old win2k3 sbs server hooked up

This is a common issue with Exchange installed on any DC, not just SBS. It won't switch to another DC when the one it is in contact with drops out from under it. If you want to ensure everything is working before you demote your 2003 server, simply boot the 2008 machine while the 2003 machine is offline. That will force Exchange to switch to the new DC during its startup cycle and then all should be well.
