Question : Re-enable 'Server' service in Windows 2003 Server

Hi there

I've rather stupidly disabled the 'Server' service on Windows 2003 server which has affected a number of things, mainly the 'netlogon' service now doesnt start preventing me to logon to the server at all because it depends upon the 'Server' service to start.
Now I can't logon to the machine in order to re-enable the 'Server' service to get back to normal.

Does anyone know how to re-enable this service please?

If I reboot in to Safe Mode will it automatically enable this service? I can't boot in to safe mode remotely, but I could travel to the server to do it if I know that i can login in safe mode to renable it?

Many thanks in advance!!

Answer : Re-enable 'Server' service in Windows 2003 Server

No problem still works fine. Disabled server service, and stopped it, which also stops the netlogon and DFSnamespace services, reboot, and logged back in from the console.
There should be no problem doing so. The server service allows the server to offer "server services" like file and print sharing. It enables SMB and allows connection using "named pipes" which is why you are unable to connect remotely with those tools. It will not block you from logging on. Have you "modified" anything else?

Restarting in safe mode only disabled unnecessary drivers and stops unnecessary services, it won't start additional ones allowing you to connect and thus there is no need for safe mode.

You can try connecting using the tools I mentioned by using the IP. They work fine with IP's but probably will not in this instance. I would just get someone at the site and walk them through logging on and restarting the service.
