Question : Exchange 2007 - Information Store Service Not Starting (Multihomed NICs)

Hello Experts,

I have a Exchange 2007 server that has 4 NICs enabled for different subnets. Upon rebooting the server, I had an error message stating that the Information Store service will not start.

Here is the actual message:
Windows could not start the Micosoft Exchange Information Store on Lovcal Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 0.

So I researched the error code and nothing helped. I actually fixed this by disabling NICs 2, 3, & 4.

My question is, does Exchange 2007 Information Store service have some kind of binding to a single NIC? I'm trying to figure out why the IS will start with one NIC but not when all 4 is enabled.

Answer : Exchange 2007 - Information Store Service Not Starting (Multihomed NICs)

Are you sure there are no other errors in the windows event logs?  Have you tried turning up diagnostic logging on the Exchange server to see if we can capture more items?  Does this only happen on reboot?  Cold boot or warm boot?  Is it just the Informaton Store that won't start or are there other Exchange services that won't start?  I wonder if there is a delay in one of the dependent services which then causes the Info store to not start.  Do you have alerting set up to monitor the Info Store service and attempt a restart if the service is stopped?
