Question : Finding IP address of printer on network

Hello,

How do I find the IP address of a printer on a network?  Usually printers "broadcast" their presents to my understanding because a windows machine can search and create a list.  

This situation has not yet happened to me but I frequently connect printers on a network which i did not set up.  

Is there a way I can determin the IP address of the printer if I do not know it?  Can I connect direclty to it through USB or ethernet and find it that way?  

This must be a common issue.

Set you printer to print out a startup page using the menu. The page will usually list the current ip address. Depending on the brand, most manufacturers have printer scanner software available to scan for printers and show their ip.
If you are using a Windows Server, run the print server software it will display all the shared printers and their ip address
