Question : Configure Mac to recognize Windows workgroup

I have a Mac and I just reinstalled the OS and installed Parallels with a Windows XP virtual machine. Before I reinstalled the OS, I backed up a whole bunch of files to a windows machine on the network. I did it from a windows install on the Mac on a boot camp partition. So it was able to see the windows workgroup and interact with it without a problem. Now I am trying to transfer those files back across the network to the Mac but it is not able to see the file share or any of the workgroup computers even through the XP virtual machine installed through Parallels.
Is there anything special I need to do to configure the Mac to be able to pull files from a file share on a workgroup computer on my network?
