Question : Automatic Updates

Just ran an MBSA scan on a member server, one of the findings it comes back with:

"Updates are not automatically downloaded or installed on this computer."

If you use WSUS to roll out security updates in a managed windows network environment, do member workstations and servers require automatic updates turned on?

Answer : Automatic Updates

The advantage of wsus is it doesn't use bandwidth constantly for windows updates. Once. The update is downloaded to the server it is deployed to the workstations so only 1 copy travels across the internet. So you could essentially be installing the update 240 workstations and only have 1 copy of the update downloaded. I have several server environments where the computers except updates once a week on saturday night. It is a matter of personal preference when you want the update to happen. All of this can be controlled through group policy
