Question : MSSQL$MSFW service does not start anymore

Hello,

I am running ISA Server 2006 on a Windows Server 2003. Everything seems to be working. The firewall service starts, the publishing rules works and the VPNs. I can also make changes to the ISA Server configuration. But yesterday after patching the server I recognized that this service is set to start automatic but does not run. So I tried to start it manually but it right away stops with following warning:
" The MSSQL$MSFW service on <servername> started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they hae no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.

I checked the event logs but there is nothing logged at all.

I wonder now if I should be concerned about the fact that the service does not run or is the SQL instance only being used for logging which we do not use?

Thank you

Answer : MSSQL$MSFW service does not start anymore

There are a couple options....

Make sure that the logging in the ISA is set to file, W3C.  Then modify the installation of the ISA and remove the Advance logging then reboot.

If that doesn't work....

Export the ISA configuration.  Remove the service completely.  Add it back.  Restore the configuration.
