Question : Ghost Multicasting/IGMP
Hi guys,
Long time lurker/researcher, first time asking.
I have a network with no VLANS and need to setup multicasting for Ghost. Currently, we have a couple of ProCurve's that we go building to building with (IGMP enabled) and using a laptop with a DHCP server and the images copied to the laptops hard drive. This works fine.
I want to be able to multicast from the top down to any machine. Would prefer to stay just under the router. As I said, same LAN.
I am currently replacing all switches in this organization with IGMP capable HP's.
When it comes to the top level switch, I read about "IGMP Queriers". Could I buy a switch that is capable of being the querier, enable IGMP and the querying function (not sure yet how to do that)? and then just make sure all my other "downstream" switches have IGMP enabled?
A top level down explanation would be nice. Not much experience with multicasting.
Thanks a bunch!
