Question : latest windows live messenger version not able to work on vista home premium

previously lower version windows live messenger able to work on this Toshiba machine with vista home premium OS. after upgrading to latest version which is required / must install prompted by MSN, it gives error 'windows live messenger has stopped working. a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.' this machine is also running open norton internet security.
