It sounds more like a power management issue on the computer than on the monitor. If you have another computer, try swapping monitors:
If the issue persists on this monitor while connected to a different computer, the issue is with the monitor. There are not usually reset buttons on the monitor and unless you feel comfortable playing around inside the monitor hardware you'll not be able to repair it. And for a 17" monitor, the repairs will probably cost as much as a new screen.
If the issue then occurs on the monitor now connected to the same machine, it's a machine issue. Check that the video card drivers are updated.
