Question : Hard drive disappeared

I was copying about 350 gigs from a hard drive in my computer to a larger drive in a sata dock attached via usb. Everything was going fine. Then the transfer was interrupted with an error message which unfortunately I do not remember. The gist of the message was that something could not be copied. "skip" was one of the options. I checked skip and immediately the transfer abruptly ended and the hard drive. "G" in my computer from which I was copying disappeared. It disappeared from "Computer" and Windows Explorer and from the HDD list on computer management / storage in the control panel.

I tried system restore and from a restore point and the image the system created, neither of which worked. The failed restore returned this error message System restore failed to replace the file (C:Windows) with it's original copy from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during system restore, (0x8007/a90).

My machine is custom built. The operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Other than the missing HDD everything else seems normal.

What can I do? There was a lot of data on that disk which I need.

Thanks,
Joe

Answer : Hard drive disappeared

try unplugging that drive, reboot, turn the computer off, plug it back in, turn it back on see if it's there

how is the missing drive connected, ide, sata, usb?

in device manager, right click anything, scan for hardware changes?

in device manager, anything calling out your attention, like missing drivers for an unknown usb device, or ide controller?
