Question : Can I enter my work domain from a personal PC from home using VPN software that my company provides?

I want to be able to from my home PC access my company domain to have access to a certain public folder.  If my company provides me with the install file and data file that goes in the directory with settings, can I access the network folder?   Can I access the domain?
If not what do I need to be able to access the the domain?
