Question : Adding a Windows Server 2003 File Server to a Windows 2000 Domain
I have a Windows 2000 domain with just one domain controller. I also have a Windows 2003 server that is currently in its own Workgroup. The Windows 2003 server is and will be just a simple file server. I'd like to add it to the Windows 2000 domain.
Can I just do:
Control Panel --> System --> Computer Name
And add the server to the Windows 2000 domain that way?
My domain is single name i.e DOMAIN and not DOMAIN.local. Will that cause issues?
Answer : Adding a Windows Server 2003 File Server to a Windows 2000 Domain
You should just be able to add it as you described throught the System Properties.
If you were adding it as a Domain Controller then you would need to prep the forest and the domain.
