Question : Router setup

hi there,

i have a question about were should the router be placed. at present the internet wire goes into a 8 port d-link switch and 3 servers, 1 router is connected to this switch also. now my question is shouldnt the router be connected to the internet wire and the swtich connected to this router.i am confused. the router is also a dhcp.
