Question : best practice to backup VM from MS Hyper-V parent

I am planning to deploy two MS Hyper-V servers on my network, without a SAN as it's not in the budget.

I was thinking that if I could backup the VM's from the host to a NAS then in the event that one of my two servers goes down I can copy the VM's from the NAS onto the remaining host and be up and running.  Sound good?

If that makes sense then what's the best way to schedule an automatic backup to the NAS.  Would I use windows backup with VSS?  Ideally I would like to to keep the copy on the NAS current so maybe a product that will create a base backup and then copy over the delta's every hour so it's current.  Suggestions?

Hello,

Not too sure about the best practice, however I would use Windows Backup to backup the <DIR> of your VM's which will use VSS, I would then backup the Physical Volume to tape. Of course I have no idea what hardware you have available to you.

Cheers

Michael
