Question : Should I create a dynamic disk or not?
I have recently added a hard drive to my PowerEdge server that has 3 hard drives that make up a Raid 5. The hard drive I am adding is "outside" of the raid for extra storage. I have added it and initialized via Delll Open Manage Software. When I go to Disk Management to create the disk on the windows side it asks if I want to create a dyanmic disk? What is the advantage since this is a standalone drive? Should I do it?
I had a standalone drive at one point that was dynamic and everything was fine in windows but when I used Acronis to make a ghost, the dynamic disk was nowhere to be found. I would imagine that if I want a program like Acronis or Ghost to find the hard drive I would need to NOT make it dyanamic? Is this correct? Thanks!
Answer : Should I create a dynamic disk or not?
the last acronis 9.5 and over support dynamic disk.
If you have a hardware raid on a server, do not use dynamic, use it only if you have to mirror or span hard drives over the windows
