Question : Windows Server 2008 Standard & Exchange 2010 CAL (licensing) Questions
Hello guys,
We have transitioned from SBS 2003 / Exchange 2003 to Windows Server 2008 STD w/ Exchange 2010 STD.
On our SBS 2003 box, we just had to purchase 5Pack CALS for SBS 2003 and it also automatically updated it for the Exchange 2003.
For the new server, do i need to purchase separate CALS for the server and Exchange?? Doesn't make sense, i thought as long as i purchase CALS for Exchange 2010 i wouldn't need to worry about the Windows Server 2008 Cals?
Dell representative is telling me that i need to purchase 40 Pack licensing for both Exchange & the Windows Server 2008... Over $3K for the licensing?!!!!!!

Personally, I would take a laptop off of your network and try activating it at home. That will pinpoint it to be either a network problem or a problem with your key with Microsoft.
