Question : Debian 5 Lenny cannot connect via SSH with alternate user

Hello, I am trying to follow the security advises and not to give the root user SSH access, so I created an alternate user with root privileges, I disabled the root access in the sshd_config file, but cannot login with the alternate user, I even added the line AllowUser and then the username of this alternate user but nothing, I get prompted for the user and pass from the outside but I always get the access denied message, any ideas?

thank you

Answer : Debian 5 Lenny cannot connect via SSH with alternate user

The first part ("root" user) was most likely the issue. As far as first cap in the user name - should not pose any issue at all, certainly not related to SSH. The only issue there is that *nix is case sensitive for everything including user names so usernames are generally created in lower case to avoid login/confusion issues. Tony and tony (and tOny and tonY...) are two different accounts and people tend to get mixed up...

Glad you're back in business.
