Question : How to recover data from crashed xp hard drive??

i have a hard drive that crashed and when you boot the drive it says no operating system found.  how can i get my data off the drive?  i have heard of some softwares that can do this.  any recommendations?

Any good LIVE Linux CD ( knoppix, etc ) should have tools to read NTFS drive, so that is certainly an option.
