Question : local printing with RDS and Windows 2008

Hello,

Windows 2008 SP2 RDS (TSE) installed

I have a remote PC Windows XP SP3 with RDP client with an HP Laserjet USB local printer connected

What is the best/easier way to print locally ?. I have heard that with Windows 2008 is it easier to print locally. Not need to install the local HP driver on the server. Is it right ?

Other question: to build PDF files on the TSE Windows 2008 Server can I install Free PDF Creator ? If not is there any other free tool to build PDF files on the Win 2008 TSE ?

Thanks

Answer : local printing with RDS and Windows 2008

No need to share anything.
It is all done over RDP.
What you need:
- On 2008 and 2008 R2 there is now something called EasyPrint. This is what allows you to print WITHOUT installing ANY driver on the TS.
- Make sure the CLIENTS are all on the LATEST RDP 7 client AND they have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed as well.
- You may need to check the permissions on the SPOOLS directory on the server. Make sure the users do HAVE rights on it.

If all above is met, printing will work out of the box without ANY drivers or sharing. The TS will autocreate the printer and will use the EasyPrint driver for it.
