Question : Draytek 2820 IPPBX setting up questions for VOIP

Hi everyone!
I'm struggling to configure an IP based PBX system using Draytel as the SIP, a Draytek 2820IPPBX router/PBX system, and some Linksys SPA phones. I'm looking to port 11 existing ISDN numbers (consecutive) to the SIP, and then for those DDI numbers to work on the VOIP system just in the same way as they were before on BT lines. I'm not interested in auto-attendant, or hunt groups, etc - I just want the specified extension to ring if someone dials that users specific DDI.

It's been very unhelpful talking to Draytel/Draytek & Linksys because they only support their own areas with regards to hardware or supply of SIP lines, and there seems to be nobody who can cover the entire area of the seemingly basic system I require. I'm expecting to be going to & fro on this subject several times before reaching a conclusion because there isn't just one problem or fault, and ultimately I need to have a complete working system.

OK, please sit comfortably, swig a large JD, and take a deep breath............ this is how I've configured it.......... My regular ADSL connection feeds a mailserver through an existing Draytek 2820n router - I only have one ADSL line here and for testing purposes of the PBX it cannot be disconnected. Therefore the 2820IPPBX is connected via it's WAN2 port to one of the LAN ports on my exisiting 2820n. Sorry if Draytek chose two similar model numbers for different bits of kit! Obviously the 2820IPPBX does have ADSL ports but I can't disconnect the 2820n, so one router feeds another. For the 2820IPPBX I've put that unit's IP in the DMZ of the 2820n, replicated the ISP's DNS server names to the 2820IPPBX, and can successfully connect to the internet on LAN ports of the 2820IPPBX. ##### I'm not sure if there still will be issues here with port forwarding etc...

I have a business account with Draytel and for the sake of testing have set up an 0203 and an 0845 number. All I want to prove at this point is that calling the 0203 number rings one extension phone, and likewise for calling the 0845 number it rings the other. I can probably figure it all out from there onwards once the real ISDN DDI's are imported.

The phones are Linksys SPA942's and I've configured each with a static IP address. They register with the 2820IPPBX and can call each other with no problems - EXCEPT having to press the soft-key dial button after calling the other extension. Draytek say I should try another brand of phone (i.e. their own!) and maybe we don't need to press the dial button after keying the number. This isn't quite what I expect as you shouldn't need to do this on normal BT phones after obtaining a dial tone.

I can call out on the Linksys phones, and they will sucessfully ring a BT line. I can hear sound on the BT line (from the VOIP phone's mic), but cannot hear sound on the VOIP phone (from the BT phone's mic).

When dialling the VOIP system from my BT phone there's a long pause before I get a busy tone. The VOIP phones do not ring.

Can anyone please help? or should I ditch the Draytek unit? As a combined ADSL router and VOIP PBX system it should be the ideal product. I've looked at 3CX but cannot get to grips with it, especially as my experience/age says "hardware solutions are always best" (not sure if I'm right nowadays though!).

Thanks very much anyone willing to read all this!
Dave
