Question : installed SMTP Service - screwed up my IIS webserver !!

Hi All!

I am developing web apps (in ASP, VBScript, SQL Server for the record) using IIS in a virtual server that runs Windows Server 2003 SE.

Recently I had to port in some code that uses CDONTS so I had to install the SMTP service onto the IIS server. I followed these instructions:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/smtp/how-can-i-install-the-smtp-service-under-windows-server-2003-.aspx

I had to do this a few times as the first time I didn't have the CD handy.

Anyhow, now my web app is not working at all. I'm getting "The page cannot be found" HTTP 404 error.

Ok, thru writing this I've had to do some testing. I threw up some test files ("Hello World") onto IIS and tried to access them via HTTP:

hello.html works but hello.asp doesn't!

so that narrows it down a bit, somehow I've screwed up the ASP app server ?

Not being an IIS, SMTP, HTTP etc jock, can someone help me sort this out?

NB I didn't even get as far as configuring SMTP after installing it, but the pages I'm failing on don't even use CDONTS so don't think thats a factor....

Check that ASP is still installed, when installing the smtp service you may have accidentily removed something else maybe? check in add/remove programs.
