Question : Upgrading our domain from Server + exchange 2000 to 2003 or later.

Our company is running an old Windows 2000 server standard domain controller with Exchange 2000 Enterprise.

We want to upgrade to at least 2003 which will give us much better mobile and VPN service support.

I was hoping to do a direct upgrade to 2003, as we have both Windows 2003 server standard and Exchange 2003 standard software which has been donated.

I started doing the upgrade with Exchange first as I read that Exchange 2000 won't run on Server 2003, but Exchange 2003 would run on 2000. So started doing the Exchange part, but as we got to the final step before the upgrade was started found that we couldn't upgrade from Exchange Enterprise 2000 to Exchange 2003 standard. I hadn't realised that it was the Enterprise edition we had originally.

So anyway what is the best way of moving my domain and Exchange to another box that is running Server 2003 standard and Exhcnage 2003 standard? Can I attach the new box to the domain and migrate the AD accross to this 2nd box and then move the mailboxes as well?

Bascially I don't want to have to rebuild the entire domain.

Im sure someone has some experience with this sort of process, your help appreciated.

Answer : Upgrading our domain from Server + exchange 2000 to 2003 or later.

Just replace the drive, the rebuild should start automatically. The middle light should start flashing with a regular interval. When it stops flashing the rebuild is done..

f the server with the failed raid set is running the raid controller will start fixing the raid set as soon a you insert the Ireplacement drive.
