Well, if you do not even see the drives in the BIOS then the fault does certainly not lie with Linux. I suggest you turn to the EE zones
Storage > Storage Misc
Storage > Hard Drives
and ask around there for the correct setup of your drives.
As long as the drives aren't functioning perfectly, there is not much use in trying CentOS on them, because the CentOS installer is one among the more problematic in the Linux world.
