Question : DELL computer - Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done

I have an XP (SP3) box that every now and again the machine locks only displaying the error message above. Within the last two weeks this problem has occurred at least 10 times.

I noticed with this error once it displays itself on your monitor your computer locks, it is useless. I've discovered that if you allow your computer to remain in that state for approximately 5 minutes the machine will continue booting as if nothing has happened!

What's up with that!?

Some people think this problem is because the boot block is corrupt. Cleaning up the boot block appears to be a temporary fix certainly not a permanent one in this case. Others may think if you have an external hard drive connected to your computer via USB that could be the cause of your problem.

I am not sure if either one of those scenarios place one in a position to resolve the problem...
One of the other remedies that appear to have worked for some is changing the hard drive. I guess by changing the hard drive you have an opportunity to create a fresh boot block on a fresh set of platters.

Does that error message goes away when you change the hard drive to a new one? I don't think so. I took out the old hard drive and replace it with a new hard drive. The machine came up just fine. But I did see for a split second that error message above "Loading PBR or descriptor 2...done”

I must say that I clone the old hard drive to the new hard drive. I don't know how that affects the outcome. I'm wondering if I must/should re-install Windows XP? Would that cause the problem to go away?

I've done a lot of research when it comes to the error message above I can't find any solid explanation besides that it is a DELL problem. Why does this happens? More importantly how to resolve the situation.

I am looking forward to reading your thoughts and comments about this error message and how I can get rid of it.

Thanks!

Answer : DELL computer - Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done

You should be able to add the application, but need to select the executable manually. For udp/1434 it is the browser sqlbrowser.exe (usually "c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlbrowser.exe"), for tcp/1433 sqlservr.exe ("c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.EXPRESS10\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe"). You can lookup both in services.msc.

With "remote port" I meant the port of the client in the firewall. You have set it to 1433 ("Here are the settings for the firewall exception rule: protocol type is tcp, local port is 1433, remote port is 1433, ").
