Question : USB HDD for VMware ESXi 4 virtual server?

I have two servers (Windows 2008 STD) server running on VMware ESXi 3.5 and ESXi 4 (freeware version of ESXi).

I need to attach a USB HDD to the virtual server, when I use vSphere client to edit the virtual server settings to add a USB device , it says it will appear as a file? How do I add a USB device to the virtual server and make it appear just like a normal USB port on on physical server?
