Question : Windows 2008 R2 on Dell PE2950

Hi All,

I'm trying to install the Enterprise version of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit on a new Poweredge 2950.  The DVD is a Microsoft Partner DVD from the Action Pack set.  When the configuration is complete and the machine reboots I'm prompted for the DVD correctly.  Unfortunately, when I put the DVD in, I get a message telling me the DVD isn't a valid Windows Server 2008 edition.  I selected 64 bit Windows 2008 in the configuration and had it setup the RAID 5 for me before the reboot occurs.  The Partner DVD contains both the 32 bit and 64 bit version of Windows 2008.  If I go into the BIOS and choose to boot from the DVD, it boots to it fine and starts the install program, so there are no issues with the DVD being bad.  Any ideas on what's going on?

Answer : Windows 2008 R2 on Dell PE2950

On a 2950, you can bring up the raid configuration utility by pressing "ctrl + m" or ctrl + r (i think)

setup the raid that way

download a windows 2008 R2 ISO from your authorized source, burn it onto a disc
and install it

is it something else you are doing that you need the dell disc ?

Once you have R2 installed, you can install Dell server admin to install drivers, but on a 2950 R2 gets all the driver during install or copy the drivers from the directory on dell disc to your server and thats it.
