Question : virtualize a fileserver?

hi experts,

we have about 30 people working here and our fileserver has about 200 GB data,
doc,xls,jpg,tiff,pdf.
Is ist okay to virtualize this server (win2003), so that all files are stored inside this VM?

We have 2 ESX4 Server each running 5 VMs which are stored on a HP MSA2312i(15krpm SAS disks).(HA enabled)

Or are there any disadvantages with virtualizing a fileserver?  (performance, security..)

Answer : virtualize a fileserver?

Hi

I have virtualize many File Servers

After you virtualize a Server, then you can treated as a normal Physical Server regarding the security.

The performance, just need to create the Server, create a Virtual Disk to hold the files(here you can use a normal disk or a LUN connected directly to the server a RAW disk). The write/read performance will always depend your Storage to hold your Data Files
