Question : Exchange 2010 issues

Email stop flowing when an exchange 2010 was added to an exisiting Exchange 2003 environment.  When I telnet to the Public IP address from the outside, I receive 220**************************************************, I can telnet internally.  What could be some of the problems.

boot up the windows xp cd and select repair
this would repair all registry and system default drivers and files.
