Question : Win 7 DPI Default 125% ??

I've just installed windows 7 premium on my laptop (hp 8530p) and am having difficulty with the DPI settings

Im have an external 24" monitor hooked up to the laptop also.

The laptop is running at 1280x800 (recommended 1680x1050) and the 24" monitor at 1920x1080 which is the recommended setting.

By default, I found the text and display sizes too big, so I had a hunt around in control panel and came across the "Make tet and other items larger or small option.  I was surprised to see that the default was Medium 125%

I changed it to smaller 100% and the screens were perfect until I found some older programs I used did not seem to like this mode and cut text off as per the screenshots attached.

I had a look on a friends laptop and also screenshots on the net of peoples settings and they all said Smaller 100% was the default.

Why is it saying Medium 125% is the default ?  Can I change it to Smaller 100% to be the default ?  Im sure this is what is causing the text problems.  Also I cannot resize the windows when the text is squashed up.

I have also tried both settings without the external monitor hooked up with the laptop running at its preferred 1680x1050

Answer : Win 7 DPI Default 125% ??

Ok, found the solution after many hours of digging around the web.

Seems when changing win 7 to the smaller DPI, it does not change some font sizes.

A registry edit fixes the issue.
