Question : Problems sharing iTunes between accounts on a Mac

I had setup sharing iTunes between 3 different accounts on my MAC (OSX 10.5.8). When I upgraded to iTunes 9.2, everything went all to hell.

The primary user (admin) still has access to all the music files. But the 2 other users (no admins) now see an empty iTunes application (no music available). The application is fine, but the users cannot see all our downloaded music.

Here;s my setup:
  - In iTunes, in my preferences I have set Sharing to Share My Library on My Local Network
  - In iTunes, in my preferences (for all users) I have set Advanced to the following:
         - Media folder location is set to /Users/Shared/iTunes
         - Checked Keep Itunes media folder organized
         - Checked Copy Files to iTunes media folder when added to Library
 - In File I have selected Library and then Organize Library
 - I have validated that all my iTunes files are in /Users/Shared/iTunes

On the shared folder I have gone into each individual folder and have added Read and Write permissions for all the users.

What could be wrong ?

And is there an easier way ? This is the stupidest application I have ever had to deal with.

Thanks, Peter

Answer : Problems sharing iTunes between accounts on a Mac

the problem with your setup is: even though Media Folder in all of your accounts point to /Users/Shared/iTunes/, the iTunes Library database is still located in ~/Music/iTunes/ for each account.
What you need to do is:
1. as admin, reset Media Folder location to default location ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/, then consolidate all the music in that folder, so that you can delete /Users/Shared/iTunes
2. quit iTunes, and move (not copy) ~/Music/iTunes folder to /Users/Shared/
3. in Get Info window for /Users/Shared/iTunes set permissions for everyone to Read & Write, then Apply those permissions to enclosed items (this option is under "gear" icon)
4. create an alias to /Users/Shared/iTunes in ~/Music/, the alias should be named exactly iTunes
5. log in to your other accounts, delete the folder ~/Music/iTunes and perform step #4
