Question : visual studio 2008 installation issue
I had Visual Studio 2008 installed on my old laptop runing 32 bit windows 7 and I had installed SQL Server 2008 R2. I chnaged to a new laptop running windows 7 64 bit and I installed the same version and now it tells me it cant open my VS files. Here is the error message
C:(path) cannot be opened because its project type (.rptproj) is not supported by this version of Visual Studio.
I ahve run windows update and my new machine is up to date. Is the problem going from 32 bit to 64 bit or is there something that could have updated my old computer when installing the SQL. I have not and don't plan to install the SQL on my new machine.
Answer : visual studio 2008 installation issue
Sounds like you are missing SQL Reporting Services, try reinstalling SQL Server and ensuring that you install reporting services (if you are now on 64 bit, you will need a 64 bit version of SQL Server)
