Question : WINDOWS XP PRO MEDIA EDITION RECOVERY

AT START UP I RECEIVED THE WINDOWS STOP MESSAGE "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME".  WHEN RUNNING THE CD RECOVERY CHKDSK IT SAID "THE VOLUME APPEARS TO CONTAIN ONE OR MORE UNRECOVERABLE PROBLEMS".  IF I ENTERED FIXBOOT IT SAID "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO WRITE A NEW BOOTSECTOR TO PARTITION C?"  WILL I LOSE PARTITION C?  HELP

Answer : WINDOWS XP PRO MEDIA EDITION RECOVERY

You should test the HD with the HD manufacturer's diagnostic utility, some of them can do some basic repairs, and after that try running chkdsk /r again. If the tool tells you to replace the HD, well, that's what you'll have to do...

You'll find those tools on the UBCD:
