Question : Error when running adprep32/forest prep

Hello,

I just took on a new network and I need to setup a new server 2008 ent as the PDC the existing PDC is on Server 2003 Service pack 2 32bit...

When I run Adprep32/forestprep I get the following error
Error Code: 0x3a
Error Message Code: The Specified Server cannot perform the requested operation

Does anyone know why that is? please advise.

So you have a crashed server?
In that case you are going to need to seize the FSMO roles as per: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504

If you haven't already done so you will also need to perform a METADATA cleanup if the failed DC as per: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216498
