Question : No Operating System Found Gateway NX850X

I have a client's laptop that has been really spotty with me. It came in because upon booting, the laptop will tell the user, Operating System Not Found. I possibly thought that either the system files had become corrupt, or possibly a setting in the BIOS was awry. So I externally slaved the hard drive to another machine and there were no corrupt files. I went ahead and decided to run a repair anyways, only to find that the laptop would not allow me to boot from disc. So I checked the BIOS, and there was no choice for changing boot options. The BIOS is the Phoenix BIOS, which doesn't allow much room for changing options in the BIOS anyways. The problem is, sometimes, I can get the laptop to boot into Windows, where it promptly freezes, and sometimes it will blue screen with the KERNEL STACK INPAGE ERROR. I also found another forum online that stated that the problem wasn't with the hard drive, which is IDE BTW, but the problem is with the connector for the HD on the board itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
