Not to sound patronising, as I have seen this before, but make sure the labels you have put in are not upside down. I had someone with a similar problem that had put the roll in upside down!
Also have a look and see if you can see the pressure switch that tells the printer if its open or closed, and check that it is not blocked, or the tabs have not broken off.
