What are the steps involved in installing a file that I just downloaded off the internet on a Macintosh OS X v.10.4.11 computer?
The file has finished downloading and then I follow the steps to install it.
However, even though the program (an update to a file backup application) says that it has installed successfully, the software backup program doesn't display the new version number that it should display when the program is opened.
I don't have much experience with Macintosh operating systems; all of my experience so far has been with Windows.
Please tell me what I might be doing wrong or what I need to do in order to successfully install this software update.

Do you perhaps have more than one copy of Retrospect installed on the computer? Do a Spotlight search.
