Question : regarding auto-archiving of emails in MS Outlook 2003

Hello everybody,
We are using MS outlook 2003 in our company and Microsoft exchange server 2003 as a mail server.

Our mail server is almost full and we wan to empty some space on it. We came across a function of "auto-archiving" in Outlook 2003.

My question is that, will auto-archiving of emails will take mail-box space? I mean, will the archived emails still be stored on mail-server, or they will be stored at another location on a local PC or on network?

Thanx in advance

Answer : regarding auto-archiving of emails in MS Outlook 2003

The auto archiving feature will remove the emails from mailbox'es and store it as a PST file. normally archive.pst gets stored in local settings\application data\Microsoft\Outlook.

Once auto archiving is carried out, you'll have to run an online defrag and then an offline defrag to clear off the whitespaces in the mailbox db's and to reduce the actual size of the db's.
