Question : SCSI device connected directly to the network?

I have an HP ScanJet 3C that is attached to a XP SP3 box via an Adaptec 2940 SCSI card. I've had the hardware for many years it has served us well. The downside to this configuration is that only one person can utilize the scanner at a time.

I want to make the scanner available to everyone who is connected to our network. Is that possible? Is there a device out there that will allow SCSI devices to attach themselves directly to the network? I think the proper question is; Can someone point me to a SCSI device that will allow the SCSI scanner to connect directly to the network?

Thanks!

Answer : SCSI device connected directly to the network?

You're trying to get too much out of an old scanner. There are SCSI-ethernet bridges, but they're very expensive. It isn't a simple thing - you pretty much need a server in between.
You could share the scanner from the PC that's hooked up to it, but that's also problematic and would be very slow.
You really should consider getting a newer scanner - perhaps a networked all-in-one printer-copier-scanner. You can get a cheap consumer-level inkjet one like the photosmart Plus for well under $200, or get a more robust laser model that can act as a full departmental copier and laser printer as well, for more of course.
