Question : Adding Windows 2008 server to Windows 2003 domain
I have an existing Windows 2003 domain where I want to add a 2008 server. This 2008 server will not be up all the time for a while - I will eventually be moving apps over, but I am testing for a few months. I want to use this as a Remote Desktop server and also as a "backup domain controller" though I believe that is the old technology. I don't think I need it to do DNS or DHCP.
The new server is on the network now, but I have not joined it to the domain yet.
Anything special I need to do in order to not screw up my existing network?
I will eventually promote it to primary domain controller (again, perhaps old terminiology)
Answer : Adding Windows 2008 server to Windows 2003 domain
You should NOT make the server a DC if you are going to run RDS on the server.
You should never run RDS\TS on the same server as a DC this is a NO NO.
