Question : Gracefully shutting down VMs before ESX hosts shutdown in vSphere
Dear Experts
We're planning our shutdown procedure in the event of say a power outage. We run a virtualised server environment on vSphere of a single cluster containing 6 hosts and almost 30 VMs.
We would like the VMs to gracefully shutdown when the hosts begin shutting down (UPS sends command to hosts) and have configured the "Virtual Machine Startup/Shutdown" Settings under the Configuration tab for the hosts but i'm unsure what will happen as HA is enabled on our cluster. I don't want the VMs to detect that the hosts are unavailable and try to restart on a different host.
Any ideas how i should go about this?

You are doing it correctly. VMs have nothing to do with HA...just the hosts, & vCenter to an extent.
