Question : Running an esx virtual machine within workstation - getting networking to work

Hi,

Hi,

I have a standalone esx server connected to a router, then a PC within the same subnet connected to the same router.

On the Pc I'm running workstation 7 with an esx virtual machine inside of it. I've given the virtual esx machine 192.168.1.20 as an IP. Whilst the PC host can ping this address, my stand alone esx server on the same subnet cannot.

Within workstation 7 I've set the network connection to use bridged connection and replicate physical network state, but no luck.

what do I need to do to get ping working between the two esx servers?

The esx has a hard coded IP address, I've changed the NIC to bridged and NAT but still can't ping outisde of the vmware workstation.

I've attached a network diagram showing the setup, as I'm not even sure this can be done, please let me know your thoughts, thx

If you need partitions larger than 2 TB you need to change the disk from MBR to GPT. This can only be done on an un-partitioned HD, so I would remove all partitions from it and start the 2008 installation again. You should get the options to change the disk to GPT where you select the disk and partition during installation.

Also, I wouldn't use Dynamic disks unless you have a good reason for that.
