Question : Windows XP and Microsoft Outlook and Windows Installer problems
my uncle is getting a Windows Installer message when trying to send an e-mail.
He says OK to the installer but nothing happens and he can not send any messages. I've never heard of Microsoft Outlook. It is not Outlook Express.
I searched Google for windows installer errors and found a link to Microsoft's website. There was a list of close to 10 solutions.
I picked one and start > run > ...... and it seems we unregistered something, and re-registered it, and then download "installer 2.0".
I am not sure it that solves his problem. I told him it was a microsoft safe site so the download, at worse, was an update to something he had, and no harm.
What can you tell me about this message he is getting and why does his Internet Explorer mail icon go to Microsoft Outlook?
Answer : Windows XP and Microsoft Outlook and Windows Installer problems
If you deselect Word as the default email editor you won't have this problem.
You can try closing Word and Outlook (completely, meaning not open in Background) and then try opening word, it should work properly.
Otherwise another workaround is to only send maximized email messages.
