Question : Video Conference w/ webcam

There has been a lot of traffic on this item so I hope I'm not being redundant, but none seem to address my specific question.

I would like to set up a video conference using a couple of webcams w/o going outside the local network.

I have two offices that are connected via a 10mb fiber connection.  For all intensive purposes, we're on the same LAN; no routing or firewall issues.

I've been trying to get Dell's Video Chat going but am having firewall issues (and am not keen on opening up the ports anyway even if I can get past those issues).  I would like to see if there is a way to connect the two systems w/o going outside the network.  Most meeting/chat applications employ a hosted service acting as the intermediary.  Ideally I would like to simply point to the other PC or webcam w/o going outside.

Is there a particular webcam and/or meeting/chat application that doesn't utilize hosting or allows you the ability to connect directly with the other side?

The PCs on either side are both Windows 7 w/ a high spec.

Ideas?

Thank You

Answer : Video Conference w/ webcam

You might want to look at Polycom PVX software. It will connect both inside and if ever needed outside your local network. I would stay away from any freeware applications. The easy test to see if your LAN is stopping traffic is to set up the application with a Hub between the two computers and get it to work. Then you can put it on your LAN and see if it causes any problems and then troubleshoot.

Good luck
