Question : Best way to handle vanity urls in IIS?

Environment is Microsoft Server 2003

Our marketing team has gone vanity-url crazy. They want a zillion vanity urls, all pointing to various and sundry pages, some dynamic and some static.

I know you can set up vanity URLs in IIS by creating a folder in the document root and then creating a permanent redirect to the target page. However this ends up with the document root being cluttered with a zillion empty folders whose sole purpose is to serve as the vanity url to be redirected.

Is there a better way of doing this in IIS? Can a vanity URL be defined without the folder in the root directory?

Without the files being on a streaming server, you won't get this to work.  So do it the way 99% of other people do it, and simply upload the videos to youtube.com.  You tube is a sophisticated streaming server, and it will do everything you want -- which is why almost everyone, even to the highest levels of the government, use it to stream video.
